Project ROHSA 3
About the ROHSA 3 project – Saxon raw materials data
Raw materials determine our lives: Whether motor vehicles or toothpaste, coffee mugs or smartphones, every one of us uses about 10 tons of raw materials a year.
From dust-covered files to the 3-D model – Saxony’s sub-surface goes digital
Data of the geological structure of the sub-surface provide important information for raw materials management, land use planning and large-size infrastructural projects. They also provide a basis for geological land survey.
Saxony exploits its treasures
This key project of the Saxon raw materials strategy helps to re-assess all resources containing valuable information for potential mining investors.
Saxony’s wealth
Saxony is rich in mineral resources and centuries-long mining has created a wealth of geological information. The rising world market prices for ores and spars have led to a growing interest in domestic raw materials. This is why the »legacy data« regained great importance. This treasure trove of data also meets advanced industrial standards thus supporting new explorations.
ROHSA 3 gives an insight into the sub-surface
A lot of data about Saxon raw material resources is kept at different archives. The ROHSA 3 project group examines, digitizes and publishes the existing data. Geochemical and geophysical data records are provided in addition to drilling data.
The project is scheduled for a period of 10 years. Currently the sub-project ROHSA 3.5 (2023–2024) is in progress.
The ROHSA 3 project group consists of specialists from the Saxon State Office for Environment, Agriculture and Geology (Sächsisches Landesamt für Umwelt, Landwirtschaft und Geologie (LfULG)) and the Saxon State Mining Authority (Sächsisches Oberbergamt (OBA)). The project advisory committee is where representatives of administration and research and industry join and actively work together.
